The singer/recording artist known simply as SUNWAY will be making her first appearance at 80s Pop Muzik’s monthly 80s party along with her band on Saturday, Jan 31st.
Sunway was among the first to release a music video in 2010, a cover of Don Henley’s “the Boys of Summer”, recorded entirely on an iphone 4. Her video garnered nearly 75,000 likes on YouTube. The song was subsequently released in Europe as a single and you can find the single in an album called California Groove III, a compilation CD that also featured artists like Hall and Oates, Carly Simon, David Lee Roth, Bette Midler, Foreigner, Linda Ronstadt, Michael McDonald, Al Jarreau, the Doobie Brothers, Toto and more.
Sunway in 2012 recorded an album entitled “I’m Here.” Recorded in Honolulu, Germany and Los Angeles, the album was mastered at the historic Abbey Road Studios in London. Attracting the attention of audiences while acting as sidekick to host Andy Bumatai on his successful “Night Time with Andy Bumatai” TV series in 2009, Sunway also performed as the opening act for two sold out Adam Lambert concerts in 2010.
Sunway was nominated for “Female Vocalist of the Year” and “Contemporary Album of the Year” at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards in 2013. Following the overwhelming positive response to her performance of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” at the award ceremony, Sunway and falsetto singer Ryan Kamakakehau Fernandez performed this cover so beautifully in English (Sunway) and Hawaiian (Fernandez) for its inspirational lyrics and universal message of brotherly love especially after the deadly tornadoes that struck Oklahoma. They combined their voices once again to release a single of the song with 100% of the proceeds going to local charity as a way of demonstrating their Aloha to those who may be suffering, regardless of the cause and have chosen the Aloha United Way as the recipient.
Hope to see you all at Bar 35 on Saturday, January 31, 2015 and dance to the live music performance of Sunway, as well the DJ sets from DJ Rhombus and DJ Nocturna. Stay tune for next months 80s Pop Muzik’s anniversary party featuring local rock band Super Hi Fi.
Mahalo for your continued support !
